Where do I get...: Other...
Here's a list of other useful component sources (I've not tried all of
these):
- Ignition coils (see 60 kV pulses )
are probably easiest taken from old cars :-). There are different types,
try to get so-called "high performance" or "high power" ones, the
simple ones aren't really satisfactory.
- Neon sign transformers (don't actually know where to get these)
and oil burner ignition transformers
(ask your local heating engineer
or get a new gas heating :-) produce voltages of about
5kV(oil)-15kV(neon). Very universal, make good arcs, feed cascades
etc.
- There's a certain kind of insect-killer that uses UV light to
lure the insects and sparks (perhaps 5-10kV) to roast them. I've not
looked at one of them yet, so I can't tell what kind of voltage and
circuit is used.
- Medical X-rays contain HV transformers for up to 100kV. See Stomp's House-High
Voltage Laboratory for examples. If you should happen to have
access to these, I'm highly interested!!!
